The Mishne Torah: The Complete Restatement of the Oral Law
It is our pleasure to bring you a precise edition of Maimonides' classic masterpiece of Jewish law, in a single volume based on authoritative manuscripts - distributed in the United States on behalf of Or Vishua Publications.
RaMBaM's complete, organized masterpiece allows one to study the basic foundations of the Oral Law in its entirety, and in a short period of time. Familiarity with these patterns of thought, whose gates are knowledge are love, guides the reader to purposefully living a life God-consciousness and understanding of God's ways within the universe. Life's intensity and eternity come from following God's ways in practice, pure of body and holy of spirit.
Features of this edition of the Mishne Torah:
- The most accurate version of the text. This version of the text is based on the edition of R. Yoseph Qafih. Adjustments were made based on comparison with other manuscripts known for their authenticity, repairing the distortions imposed by the Church censors and the tens of thousands (!) of other errors that crept into the standard printed edition over the years.
- Original and standard division into laws. The division of the text into individual laws (halakhokth) was also done in accordance with the original division that appears in manuscripts, with each law put in a separate paragraph. The numbering of the laws, however, corresponds to the numbering that appears in the widespread Vilna edition.
- Chapter titles. Each chapter has a short title that summarizes the topic of the chapter and aids orientation and memory.
- Daily RaMBaM Schedule. The work has been divided for daily study of three chapters a day, useful for those who learn on their own or who follow the Chabad-Lubavitch "Daily RaMBaM Schedule."
- Notation of alternative versions. Significant variant texts, based on other precise editions, are indicated in the margins, as well as comments based on the legal responsa of Maimonides and his descendants.
- Full vowelization and punctuation. The book is vocalized and punctuated, and all abbreviations are spelled out. Unique words are vocalized in accordance with their appearance in Maimonides' own manuscript of his commentary on the Mishna.
- Cross-references. Full references to biblical verses have been added, as well as annotations of Maimonides' other works mentioned in the text.
- Indices and appendices. This edition includes eleven indices: two indices of all books and sections, one in order of appearance and one alphabetized, an index of illustrations, an index of chapter topics, an index of the titles in order of appearance, two indices of the 613 biblical precepts (miswoth), an index of biblical verses, a topical index of the entire Mishne Torah, an index of characters and personalities, a key to weights and measures, and an additional appendix of Maimonides' biographical information.
